About

Samm Occeno

Dr. Sammuel Arboleda Occeno holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising (1992), a Master of Arts in Fine Arts and Design (Studio Practice, 2015), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Educational Management) (2023), all from the Philippine Women’s University in Manila. A multi-disciplinary artist and esteemed faculty member at PWU-SFAD, Dr. Occeno refines his craft through diverse mediums, styles, and techniques while conducting webinars, workshops, and events.

His works generally revolve around a ‘Filipino’ narrative of Philippine history and culture, that is, a post-colonial lens that offers a discourse on inherited identity and its implications on nation-building. He provides his subjects a romantic quality with none of the romanticizing, a veneration with none of the puffery. Ultimately, his art is a joining of the infant present to its mother past.
As the BFA Area Coordinator at the PWU- School of Fine Arts and Design, he continues to advance artistic and academic inquiry, fostering meaningful discourse on identity and cultural preservation.

Bridging past and present through Filipino narratives—where identity is examined, culture is honored, and history breathes through art.
